The entire dissertation, including its concept and final conclusions based on applied scientific methods, stated and analyzed all important parameters of modern future trade with a special emphasis on hedging; it examined all actualities and possibilities of more extensive usage of hedging in our economical practice, it investigated and determined the level of knowledge of Croatian economists on future trade, especially hedging, and evaluated actual expectations of economists thus related. Moreover, theoretical concept of hedging is presented, positive influence of hedging on the company’s business results is determined, export competitiveness is defined and the model for determining the impact of hedging to business efficiency and profitability is set. On the basis of the entire research, essential recommendations for more extensive usage of hedging in Croatia’s economy are defined, in which the role of the state and its institutions, as initiators and promoters of introducing hedging into Croatian economy practice, is emphasized. Appropriate scientific methods were used for the scientific research and for formulating the research results. Afore mentioned methods were used for methodical representation of all important parameters of modern future trade on international markets with special accent on hedging as one of trade strategies. The dissertation represents the possibility of more extensive implementation of hedging in practice; furthermore it shows implications of using hedging to the company’s business results and a connection to competitive ability of entire Croatian economy. From afore-mentioned, it is evident that the dissertation confirmed the basic scientific hypothesis as it unambiguously proved that using hedging positively affects the financial stability and quality of company’s business, thus contributing to the general competitiveness of Croatian economy.
